 Dear GJC Brothers and Sisters,

Warmest wishes to you as you gather together in France. I just wanted to briefly share with you what the Lord is doing with young adults in North America.

We are preparing for GYC, which will be held at the end of the month, December 29-January 2. Our theme this year is No Turning Back. We are very excited about this year’s convention.

Reflecting our personal experiences, and the experiences of other Adventist young adults in North America, we realized the Lord was directing us towards a theme of sacrifice, surrender, and commitment. As Adventist young people, we understand our special calling in these last days, and are determined to boldly live out that calling. But we realized that God is calling us to more. The time has come for us to completely commit to Him and His cause. This may require significant sacrifice, and may bring hardship. But we are determined by the grace of God that after this conference, there will be No Turning Back.

Our Lord warns us, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God,” (Luke 9:62) and so we have searched Scripture to find counsel to keep us from turning back. The answer is in Hebrews 12:3: “For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.” By keeping Jesus as our focus, we overcome all discouragement and weariness and can continue pressing forward, resisting any temptation to turn back.

The Lord is blessing our preparations for the convention and working on bringing young adults together from around the world. At last count, we have people from over twenty countries that are planning on traveling to Baltimore, Maryland for this year’s conference. Also, with only a little over a week left for registration, registration numbers are much higher than they ever have been. We are excited to see what God has in store as He gathers together so many of His children from different corners of North America and the world.

Following our convention in December, we have plans for different evangelistic efforts throughout the year, including foreign mission trips. Check GYC’s website (www.gycweb.org) frequently throughout the year to see what your peers in North America are doing between conventions.

Please keep us in your prayers. Remember specifically the GYC leaders as we finalize the plans for this year’s conference. Also, please remember our speakers: Eric Walsh, Thando Malambo, Jarod Thomas, Magda Rodriguez, David Asscherick, and GC President Elder Ted Wilson, as well as the seminar presenters. We are asking God gives them the words and ideas to inspire us all to higher levels of commitment. Finally, pray for the outreach that the GYC attendees will be participating in on Sabbath, January 1. To begin the New Year, they will be knocking on doors in the Baltimore area, searching for those who earnestly want to know the truth and are willing to have Bible studies. Pray that these people will be home at the right time!

We pray for the richest blessings on the rest of your meetings together. We warmly invite you to our meetings in Baltimore. We realize that it is just around the corner, and quite a distance to travel. If you cannot find your way to Baltimore this year, you can still participate! GYC will be aired on 3ABN, and you can also watch it streamed live on the GYC website. And if you would like to start making preparations to travel to our gathering next year, we hope to see you in Houston, Texas in December 2011!

Maranatha,

Amy Lee Sheppard
